The SDA debate team experienced further successes at the Long Beach Tournament (10/2—10/4), winning the first place “Sweepstakes Award” for overall team accomplishments for the third consecutive year.

In Varsity policy debate, Michael Wimsatt was the tenth place speaker out of 74 teams, and he and his partner Maia Rosengarten went to the octo-final round after winning five out of their preliminary six debates. In Novice policy debate (for first year competitors), Priya Dave and Kira Scott made it to the octo-final round as well.

Additionally, two SDA teams, Joseph Swit and Desiree Otillio along with Jerry Jin and Trevor Laplante, tied for first place, thereby “closing out the tournament” for a total SDA win.

The debate team owes its coaches, Mr. Newkirk and Mr. Lueker, for its successes and thanks the parent volunteers for dedicating their free time to judge in the tournament and provide food and transportation.
