It’s been a busy fall semester for Speech & Debate!

After our local Varsity tournament at SDA on 9/24 & 9/25, as well as the Cal State Long Beach tournament on the weekend of Oct 2 & Oct 3, a small group of students accompanied Speech & Debate coach, Mr. Newkirk, to The Bronx School of Science in New York over the weekend of Oct 14 thru Oct 17.

Four students competed in Varsity Lincoln Douglas and 2 competed in Varsity Policy. Maia Rosengarten and Elliot Horen went to Octofinals and the group had a fun-filled adventure in New York city as well as at the tournament.

Also, Lauren Nelson and Cameron Koob went to Semifinals in Congress and Aram Mahmoudzdeh went to Finals in Congress as well as Semifinals in Impromptu Speech.

The following weekend, the team competed at Cal State Fullerton on Oct 22 to Oct 24. Overall, our team did really well.

Elliot Horen won 1st place Speaker in Varsity Policy and Trevor LaPlante won 1st place speaker in Novice Policy.

Michael Wimsatt and Elliot Horen went to Semi Finals in Varsity Policy.

In Novice Policy, Jerry Jin and Trevor LaPlante went to Quarterfinals while two teams went to Octofinals: Desiree Otilio and Joseph Swit along with Priya Dave and Kira Scott.

This past weekend 3 Varsity Lincoln Douglas students competed at Meadows High School in Las Vegas and performed well despite stiff competition.

Our next tournament will be at Damien High School on Nov 13 & 14, right before Thanksgiving break. Stay tuned for more Speech & Debate news in the future.
