Shazzam!!

For those of you that attended our Mustang 40th Reunion Events…..was that a blast, or what?

Who needs medications, when you’ve got a Reunion to go to! Our two nights and three days of laughter, rekindling old memories, sharing a brewski, roasting marshmallows, and cutting a rug, was just what the Doctor ordered. On a side note, boy did I get to bed early Sunday night!

Judging by all the “thank you’s” expressed at the Events, the kind emails that all of your reunion committee members have received since, I’m going to step out onto the plank and say that everyone ENJOYED themselves over the course of the three day event!

Your Committee appreciates your positive feedback, and this is the response that we worked hard to achieve when we took that leap of faith back in May and decided to make a go of it!

Friday night at the Beachside Bar & Grill lit the rocket. As the sunset and more and more of you flowed into the venue, our excitement started to build, we were off and running. Meanwhile over at beach, the fire pit was lit, and the marshmallows were turning black!

Saturday was liftoff! From the minute that you stepped onto the property at Morgan Run that evening, you knew that this Reunion was going to be something special. Didn’t the Ladies decorate the ballroom to the Wow Factor! I thought Christmas had come early with Mary Lou Lou giving away all those generous donations.

Finally, Sunday at the Park, Jeanne Kerzon-Miller and MaryAnn Marcello hosted the picnic. Bonnie Barrett-Crawford and her better half Tom, set the picnic tables with a vintage motive. It was like we were taking a step back in time.The sun peaked in and out, and with the canopy of trees overhead, Scott “Machete” Miller, was nonstop hacking off the outer shell of fresh coconuts. With one hand he gave a swift whack to the head of the coconut, while the other hand, with only a slight hesitation, plopped a straw into the hole! Bingo, an instant drink in a shell! Try and find that at the Hard Rock Cafe!

Once again, thanks for coming out and celebrating, for some, friendships and memories that go back 53 years to kindergarten. I can safely say here and now, it won’t be that long till Norma Montes-Clancy our photographer at each venue, and yours truly, post the Reunion Event pictures for all of our classmates to view.

As part of our year-long 75th Anniversary Celebration, San Dieguito High School Academy will be hosting a series of small events. We’d like to invite you to our first: our Founder’s Reception on October 21 at 1:30 pm.

All surviving members of the classes of 1937 through 1942 are invited to come and will be given special recognition.

These donations would be put in a separate pot and then distributed to those classmates that could use some form of financial assistance. Your committee had one thing in mind when it came to planning this reunion; make it affordable and fun for all. We encourage all of our classmates to come on out for at least one of our events. The gag gifts have been scratched this time.

Remember, none of us are fillies or colts any more, but we haven’t been put out to pasture yet either! All of us are at least 2 lbs. over, & handicapped in some way, it’s a fact of life! So don’t let anything get in the way of sharing a few hours with classmates/friends.

First item of importance is money!! We have payment deadlines that we have to meet with Morgan Run for our Saturday night event. Morgan Run has a minimum of 100 guests that we are required to meet in the contract with them.

The minimum cost to the class of 71 is $5000.00 which comes out to $50.00 per person. The contract requires that 50% of the payment be in Morgan Run’s hot hands by the 1st of August. So we need you to send in your checks.

To all who missed a great time!

Well, the 60^th year reunion of the class of 1950 is now over and we have only our memories of fun & joy at seeing our classmates and just glad to be alive.

Everyone will want to know WHO was there and what did we did!  So here are my memories.

First day we met at Joe and Jan Balsley’s home in Escondido and it is a very lovely home/ yard that held the 24 classmates plus spouses and friends who attended.  “Mr. Taco” was a super idea – the girls definitely had everything down-pat to serve the masses. Pity any one who carelessly got a finger under the cleaver of the one who chopped the meat for great tacos. The food was very good as were the desserts and Jan’s cookies took the blue ribbon medal from us all. That was a great idea for everyone was served in a very short time. We even had Margarita’s to drink as well as sodas.

Art & Martha Lopez (who has not aged one minute since I first met her, as I tell her every time), Joe and Nancy Hart. Bob and Jeanette Kundinger, Ann Carpenter Lindstrom, Beverly Clark, Ernestine Buman Biddlecomb, Andriana Sims Gabin with her son/wife, Rachel Ricardo Michel and Lova Ellefson Drake, Graham & Fran Grande, Bob Stillman, Herb Ela, Jim Phillips, Mike Gonzales, Tom & Karen Clotfelter, Richard and Ruth Cullum, Mike Corrales, David & Joyce Evans, Jack Overton, Joyce Moore Clark and husband Bill,  Betty Woodward Neal and Harold & Rolyne Wiegand and of course, Joe and Jan Balsley.  Hope I haven’t missed anyone.

Cannot forget the “older” guys – Don Balsley and Jim & Patsy Downs.  Was nice to visit with all of them. Several friends – Betsy Ash  and Joan & Dan Mote.

Joe had fixed some neat nametags that used our annual pictures and then turn into magnetized bookmarks. Think that Joe “builds” them and they are a neat thing to use later. We even had margaritas as well as sodas.

Several of Jan’s neighbors helped her out and I know they were invaluable.

We arrived about 3 p.m and think that we left about 7:30. Nice visiting by everyone.

Friday morning at 10:30 we all met down at the San Diego Harbor to board the sightseeing Harbor boat for our Champagne Brunch. IT WAS WONDERFUL! I cannot say enough good words about it. The boat was elegant, very wide inside and the food serving stations were scattered all over the main deck inside. They first served us mimosa’s which are champagne and orange juice.  Hummmmm – very good. They served everything from meats of all kinds, any type of omelet you wanted as well, as waffles, crab legs, breads, salads, desserts with a chocolate fountain. We sure did not go hungry.  The sun came out and we cruised around under the Coronado bridge and around San Diego Harbor – the whole event was over 2 hours and we then went out on the back deck to soak up the sun and have pictures taken.

Cannot say good enough reviews of how well Joe planned it for us and I know that you would all have loved it as much as we did. We talked about a 62^nd year reunion and I, for one, would like to do almost the very same thing again. It was wonderful just to be able to walk around and just plain visit and catch up with everyone’s lives.

Some of you asked to have one of the booklets that I made up for the class reunion so decided to send one to those who didn’t make it. If you don’t want it, just chuck it.

Hope you will keep in touch. I love hearing from each and every one of you. Stay well and plan on trying to attend in a couple of years.

Our reunion party on July 30th will be held at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido!!!

As those who have been there will attest, it is a beautiful setting that is well suited to hosting elegant events. The staff has been very warm and helpful, and we fully expect a first rate event!!! Our celebration will be a special evening featuring a fine meal, dancing, a D.J., a no host bar, and most importantly, sharing memories with our fellow Mustangs.
