Update! Venue change- our reunion is now a House Party Bash, Gretchen Macknight has offered her gorgeous, sprawling, backyard to host our reunion. July 28, 2012 5:30-11, a catered affair. Providing food and refreshments will be Mosaic, the new student-run business. Local community service organizations will also be invited to participate, making this a true community celebration.

All proceeds will go to support student programs and community needs. The Rummage Sale will adjoin the new Clayton E. Liggett Performing Arts Center, in front of the Academy, just east of the I-5 on Santa Fe Drive.

This is an Open Reunion for anyone who attended or taught at San Dieguito High School (though it tends to mostly be the classes of the 70′s and early 80′s).

Check-in will be from 3-5 p.m. at Charlie’s Old Gas Station on the southwest corner of F Street and South Coast Highway 101, where you’ll get a name tag and wristband. Snacks and some beverages will be available in a casual mixer atmosphere. (We’ll be passing the hat again to cover the costs of this.) At dinnertime you’re encouraged to make your way to one of the many pleasant restaurants on 101 for a meal at your own expense. However, the Old Gas Station will remain open into the night for meet-ups with former classmates in a more relaxed setting.

We’re working on a map of the bars, restaurants and shops that will be offering discounts or specials for our group. With a week or so to go before the party, we’ll post a link to a map with the details of what will be offered as an inducement to stop by and engage in economic activity. Classes that might be organizing group reservations will also be on the list.

We look forward to another great night of fun and look forward to seeing our friends from back in the days at No Hassle High.

On Sunday, July 15th, there will be a leisurely hike of two to three miles (1 to 2 hours) around the beautiful San Elijo Lagoon – meet at the Rios Trailhead in Solana Beach at 10:00 AM. Contact Shirley Schroeder at 760/753-2969 for more information.

There will also be a no-host dinner on the patio at Tony’s Jacal – 621 Valley, Solana Beach at 3:00 PM. We look forward to seeing all of you at one or more weekend events.

A Piece of My Heart is based on the true story of five women nurses and one entertainer in the Vietnam War. Their worlds are transformed when they realize the destruction and devastation the American service men face on a daily basis. These women (Kristin Perkins, Madeleine Karydes, Emi Karydes, Elisa Figueroa, Sarah Graciano, and Brigitte Williamson) come from all different walks of life. Each has their own story and reason for joining the war effort. There is one man (Dakota Speas) who portrays all of the male roles. The story takes place in several different locations over the course of 20 years.

Thoroughly moving, A Piece of my Heart makes for a powerful Theater for a Cause production, an annual tradition at San Dieguito Academy in which all proceeds go to a related charity. All donations and proceeds earned from A Piece of my Heart will go to The Veterans Village of San Diego.

About the Veterans Village of San Diego (VVSD)

Founded in 1981, VVSD is a non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to “Leave No One Behind.” VVSD is a nationally-recognized leader in providing prevention, intervention, treatment, and employment services to military veterans, including men and women who have recently returned from Iraq and Afghanistan. VVSD was featured on “CBS 60 Minutes” in October 2010. Each year VVSD provides services to more than 2,000 military veterans who have served and sacrificed for our country.

San Dieguito’s first Principal’s Tea will be held Monday, March 19, 2012, from 1:30 to 3:30 pm in the Media Center at San Dieguito High School Academy.

All former faculty and staff are invited — but let us know if you are coming by March 15 so we may have badges made up for you.
