The other day Oly Norris, ‘95, came into the Foundation office carrying an envelope full of cash and a great story.

Norris is a popular AP History and Government teacher here at San Dieguito, as well as a Skate PE coach. His former classmate, Lee Dupont, ‘94, is a skateboard photographer and filmmaker. According to Norris, “We were talking about how cool it was for San Dieguito to have Skate PE, something we didn’t have when we went to school here.”

Dupont had heard that Skate PE needed funds, so he set out to raise money for the class. He reached out to his contacts in the skateboard industry, asking them to submit original photos for a skateboarding fundraiser. He invited them to photograph whatever subject matter they wanted, but required that they use a camera phone to take the picture.

Submissions came in from such notables as Grant Brittain (professional photographer and San Dieguito parent), Spike Jonze (director of Where the Wild Things Are and other films), Eric Koston (professional skateboarder), Jamie Thomas (professional skateboarder), and many more.

Dupont held his fundraiser at the Daley Double in Encinitas and donated the proceeds to San Dieguito High School Academy. The envelope Norris carried contained over $1000, all of it raised by Dupont for Skate PE at San Dieguito.

We want to thank Lee Dupont for remembering his school in such a great way.

Go, Mustangs!

[Reading this on Facebook? Click the blue link that says "View Original Post" to see the entire article.] San Dieguito teacher Scott Huntley just let us know about about the shortcakes, lemon meringue pies and cheesecakes his Culinary Arts students are making for Mustang Mondays at Mr. Peabody’s tonight; all we can say is you might want to show up early, because they’re free! (Translation: they’ll go fast!)

Mustang Monday’s starts about 5 pm on the first Monday of every month, at Mr. Peabody’s at 136 Encinitas Blvd. in Encinitas. Lots of good food, friendly alumni and fun raffles to boot. When we went last month we saw alumni from the 40s through the 90s, but the majority were 60s and 70s. It’s a fun way to reconnect with old friends.

Go, Mustangs!

[Reading this on Facebook? Click the blue link that says "View Original Post" to see the entire article and working links.]

There are two San Dieguito Hoofprint yearbooks for sale on eBay, as well as 3 Earl Warren yearbooks from 1964, 1965 and 1966. The eBay seller apparently has blurred the names of the previous owners, so we can’t tell you to whom the yearbooks originally belonged, but you may be able to contact the seller to ask.

Click the links below to see the eBay listings:

1967 Hoofprint

1969 Hoofprint

1964, 1965 and 1966 Earl Warren Jr. High Caballitos yearbooks

The Alumni Association often gets requests for old yearbooks, but we have very few to sell. We do have some for sale from 2006-2009, with a very few available back to 2000.

If you want an older yearbook, we recommend searching for them on eBay and Craigslist. Email us for more information about old yearbooks.

We are also trying to get a yearbook digitization program off the ground; it’s been delayed for several reasons but hopefully 2010 will be the year we finally get it going.

Switchfoot, (founded by Jon Foreman, class of ‘95 and Tim Foreman, class of ‘97) played in El Cajon Sunday, Nov. 8. In an interview for the San Diego Union-Tribune, Jon Foreman mentioned his alma mater, San Dieguito.

“When we were at San Dieguito High School, we’d play gigs with jam bands and punk bands, and it was all accepted. I feel like that’s been carried on in Switchfoot and it gives you a confidence that you don’t have to be something you’re not.

—Jon Foreman, Switchfoot’s lead singer and songwriter, quoted in “Switchfoot, taking aim at the horizon” by George Varga, San Diego-Union Tribune

San Dieguito is proud of its tradition of wildly diverse musical styles and its attitude of acceptance of young artists. As your intrepid alumni editor types out this entry, she can hear an enthusiastic student band playing for the campus lunchtime crowd — and the finals for this term’s Battle of the Bands will be held November 19 at 6:30 in our Gym.

If you’re in town, drop in to hear the kids play!

The Foundation wants to thank all the members of Cinnimon Haze (and their families) for donating their talents to Mustang Magic, making it a fantastic success!

This morning so many people have come in to the Foundation office to say the music was fantastic and fun, and that it was so meaningful because it was alumni playing for the guests.

As the Alumni Coordinator, I want to apologize for not being there and meeting all of our alumni guests. (Thank you so much for coming!) A family emergency prevented me from going and I really regret not being able to go. I wanted to meet every one of you.
