MILLS, Jane Haussling
Died at age 77 on July 19, 2008, in Santa Rosa, CA, of a heart attack. Jane Mills was born November 30, 1930 in Newark, NJ. She spent her early days there, graduating from Douglass College (Rutgers University) There she married Jerry Mills; they soon migrated to California where they had two children, Richard and Betsy. She began as a professional Home Economist, and then became wife and mother. Later she studied and became an English teacher at San Dieguito High School in Encinitas, CA. She earned a Master of Liberal Arts from St. John’s College in Santa Fe, NM in 1984. She continued as an English teacher when she moved to Northern California, teaching at Santa Rosa Junior College and Sonoma State. After working with the Methodist Board of National Missions in the 1970’s, Jane knew there must be a way to live her faith that was closer to her heart. A friend invited her to La Jolla Quaker Meeting where she felt she had come home. She was comfortable with both the social and the spiritual message. After attending for some time she joined La Jolla Meeting, and later spent a year at Pendle Hill in Wallingford, PA. In 1990 she moved to Monan’s Rill, an intentional community near Santa Rosa, transferring her membership to Redwood Forest Quaker Meeting. In 2002 she moved to Friends House and was very happy there until her death.
A memorial service in the manner of Friends will be held at the Family Bible Church, 697 Benicia Dr, Santa Rosa, 95409 on Saturday, August 16th at 11:00 a.m.
