1937: Girls' Tennis

San Dieguito High School had a forward-thinking attitude toward women in sports:

"The usual thing when it comes to girls’ sports is just to pass over them as something superficial, but at San Dieguito they are going to have their fair amount of attention."

Unfortunately, there was no organized system for girls to play intramural sports, so they set up tournaments against the high school classes.

Virginia Yeager was general manager of hockey and Senior manager for hockey and baseball. Mary Furuya was general manager of basketball. Evelyn Teten was the "chief shin-cracker" of the Junior class hockey team. Ruth Pelko won the tennis tournament.
