“When we were at San Dieguito High School, we’d play gigs with jam bands and punk bands, and it was all accepted. I feel like that’s been carried on in Switchfoot..."

Switchfoot, (founded by Jon Foreman, class of ’95 and Tim Foreman, class of ’97) played in El Cajon Sunday, Nov. 8. In an interview for the San Diego Union-Tribune, Jon Foreman mentioned his alma mater, San Dieguito.

“When we were at San Dieguito High School, we’d play gigs with jam bands and punk bands, and it was all accepted. I feel like that’s been carried on in Switchfoot and it gives you a confidence that you don’t have to be something you’re not.

—Jon Foreman, Switchfoot’s lead singer and songwriter, quoted in “Switchfoot, taking aim at the horizon” by George Varga, San Diego-Union Tribune

San Dieguito is proud of its tradition of wildly diverse musical styles and its attitude of acceptance of young artists. As your intrepid alumni editor types out this entry, she can hear an enthusiastic student band playing for the campus lunchtime crowd — and the finals for this term’s Battle of the Bands will be held November 19 at 6:30 in our Gym.

If you’re in town, drop in to hear the kids play!
