Teen Driving Safety Fair

The Teen Driving Safety Fair, sponsored by the San Dieguito Academy Foundation and the San Dieguito Alliance for Drug Free Youth and put on by the Teen Driving Safety 5k Team, will be held on May 28th, 2013 at 3:30 after school at San Dieguito Academy.

Since 2010, the Teen Driving Safety 5k Team comprised of SDUHSD students, has put on annual events to help raise awareness of the possible dangers of inexperienced and/or distracted teen driving. It has raised over $5000 for the cause and hopefully changed the habits of some potentially distracted young drivers.

This annual event has been a 5k run/walk at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas followed by a booth fair with various organizations represented. However, this year, Moonlight Beach is under construction so the event venue and format has been changed.

Speakers from several public agencies and individuals who have been impacted by tragic accidents resulting from irresponsible driving will be featured again this year. It is to be held as a fair with speakers, booths, food and festivities.

All SDUHSD and EUSD families are welcome to attend; the event is free and open to the public. There will be music and free food for those who stay through the speakers.

To RSVP on Facebook, click here. (Please make sure to be logged in to Facebook before you click this link.)

If you have any other questions or concerns, please email Ian MacGregor at ianmac2100 at aol dot com.

The Fair will be in front of the Performing Arts Center Amphitheater, just a few blocks east of the I-5 at 800 Santa Fe

Let’s recognize our great SDA Teachers!

Every year SDA families have an opportunity to say “Thank You” to those teachers who have made a difference in the lives of their students by making a donation of any amount to the Teacher Appreciation Scholarship Fund.

You can recognize that special teacher for the extra time spent with your struggling student, for their help with a group study session for the AP test, for mentoring your student’s club or team, for offering on-going support to your student in homeroom OR just for being an inspiring SDA teacher!

Here’s how you can recognize a great teacher and help our graduating seniors:

  • Make your donation of any amount to the Scholarship Fund.
  • Include your comments to the teacher on the attached form so that we may share them in an acknowledgment to that teacher.
  • Return the completed form to the SDA Foundation office by Thursday May 16th so that your family can be recognized in the Academy Awards Night program.

Culinary Arts Kids cater dinner for Mustang Magic fundraiser winners

Look below the menu for photos of this event!

This weekend the SDA Culinary Arts class catered a dinner part as part of the SDA Foundation Mustang Magic Fundraiser. We created a 7 course tasting menu of the American South. The kids did an amazing job, prepping, cooking, and cleaning from 4-12 Saturday evening, so I would like to recognize their hard work, and you can give them a pat on the back if you see them or hit them up for recipes. Attached are some photos, as well as the menu.

Congratulations on such a great showing!

San Dieguito Academy Speech and Debate team has always had a strong program, but this year the students have really pushed themselves and proved to be debating and performing among the best at the Tournament of Champions and the California Speech and Debate Association State Championship.

This year, SDA hosted the second weekend of qualifiers for the San Diego Imperial Valley League and was able to feed and host 31 rooms to over 150 competitors and 70 parent and community judges. Donations were made from the following vendors:

Please support our Speech and Debate Team

Michael Wimsatt and Elliot Horen will be attending the Tournament of Champions in Policy Debate and representing SDA among the best debaters in the country. They won three bids to this tournament throughout the year. Students must earn a bid in national debate tournaments to be able to be invited to The Tournament of Champions. This prestigious competition is the same weekend as the State Championship, so they will be in Kentucky while the rest of the team will be in San Francisco.

I want to recognize the hard work of the students who did not qualify to States, but still placed in the top 20 percent of their events in the San Diego Imperial Valley League. Some of the students had to compete against 60 other teams or students.
