What the Performing Arts Center will look like
You can click on any one of these illustrations to see a much larger view.
The center is a one-story 16,000 sq. foot facility that will replace converted classrooms used by the drama and music departments.
The state-of-the-art music wing has a 3,700 square foot rehearsal space, six soundproof practice rooms, a music library, an instrument storage room, and a recording arts classroom.
The Clayton E. Liggett Theatre wing has a 225-seat flexible stage, a scenery classroom, green room and dressing rooms, and library/office space. It was named after late drama teacher Clayton Liggett, who taught from 1966 through 1985.
The Performing Arts Center will be built on the west side of the campus, immediately east of the bleachers.

Why San Dieguito High School Academy needs a new Performing Arts Center
- The current facilities at the school are inadequate to meet the demands of the music and theater arts curriculum.
- San Dieguito’s music program is currently carried out in the student center/cafeteria. Concerts must be held off-site (at La Costa Canyon High School, for example).
- There is no dedicated space for instrument storage, rehearsals or practice rooms. (Currently our instruments are stored in a portable steel storage container.)
- The school theater is a converted classroom space that has been in use since the 1960s. Technical support, lighting, dressing rooms and storage all share space with the theater seating.
- New CSU and UC requirements for visual and performing arts courses have added more students to the program. The ability to meet these needs is limited by our existing facilities.
