GENERAL INFORMATION

Girls Tennis is a fall sport with the regular season typically running from mid-August through mid-November each year. SDA has both Varsity and JV Girls Tennis Teams, each with about 12-14 players. Practices and matches are held during the week after school with most matches on Tuesdays and Thursdays, practices on Mondays and Wednesdays. There are usually one or two weekend tournaments during the season.

At a match the coaches present their line-ups: 3 singles players and 3 doubles teams from each school followed by alternates, listed in order of strength. The order of strength on the line-ups is determined by UTR ratings. Each round is 6 match ups: 3 singles matches and 3 doubles matches (all schools have at least 6 tennis courts). In the first round the number one singles players from each line-up play each other, the number one doubles teams from each line-up play each other, the number twos play each other, and so on. They play one set to 6 games. When they finish the next round starts with the players playing line 1 against line 2, line 2 against line 3 and line 3 against line 1. The third round would be the remaining match-ups, line 1 against line 3, line 2 against line 1 and line 3 against line 2. Players can be substituted out for another player to come in and play, but once taken out that player cannot be placed back in the match. More information on UTR is here

The SDA Mustangs are usually a strong tennis team in the county and advance to CIF at the end of the season.

Tryouts are held the week before school each year. If you are interested in playing on the team, please be practicing and have knowledge of the game, skills and strokes involved in tennis as well as scoring. You must also have your ATHLETIC CLEARANCE completed before tryouts. Start here for the clearance process.
