WIND ENSEMBLE I

Course Description: Meets VPA/UC/CSU requirements. Recommendation: Instructor approval or audition. This advanced level, year-long course, is designed to provide the opportunity for instrumental music students to be part of a musical ensemble that rehearses and performs various styles of music throughout the school year. Students enrolled in the class should play at an advanced level. Students at this level should be comfortable with reading and recognizing scales, various rhythmic patterns, key signatures, and standard music terminology. HW per week: 120 minutes. Plus scheduled concerts, events, and festivals.

Auditions for incoming 9th graders are typically held in late May.

WIND ENSEMBLE II

Course Description: Meets VPA/UC/CSU requirements. Recommendation: play a traditional band instrument for at least 1 year (hard-working beginners welcome!). This intermediate level, year-long course is designed to provide the opportunity for music students to be part of a musical ensemble that rehearses and performs various styles of music throughout the school year. The primary concepts that are emphasized include: major scales, intermediate rhythms, tone quality, terminology, and elements of blend/balance in a traditional musical ensemble. No audition is required for this class. HW: 120 minutes per week + scheduled concerts and festivals.
