The Jazz Band rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 PM. The current plan for the 2011-2012 school year is to keep the Wednesday evening rehearsal schedule.
Auditions for the Advanced Jazz Band will take place after school on Wednesday, October 19th. Audition excerpts and time slots will be posted in the band room. Audio samples can be heard on the Symphonic Band blackboard page.
General Information:
The Jazz Band is formed by audition in September each year. The group is primarily composed of musicians from the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble. The Jazz Band performs at the Winter Concert and the Spring Concert every year. The band also regularly performs for school assemblies and other school functions. The Jazz Band is considered a club activity, and therefore no school credits are given. Eligibility: Members of the Jazz Band must have one year of enrollment in the Symphonic Band for each year that they participate in the Jazz Band. (Exceptions are only made in the case of incomplete instrumentation) Those who are currently enrolled in Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble must have an “A” grade in order to participate in the Jazz Band. Note: This is an extra-curricular activity, and there are no credits offered for the Jazz Band.
Congratulations to the Jazz Band for their Excellent rating at the 2011 Coronado Jazz Festival. Outstanding Musicianship certificates were awarded to Ross C. and Rory P. for their solos during the performance.
