If you are a fair-weather fan, and wanted to wait to see if our teams are any good before you started cheering for them, good news: We have three of our four winter sports teams in CIF playoffs! Here’s the deets:
Boys’ Soccer: Tonight! 5 PM! Home Game! This is the first I know of any of our SDA teams playing in the elite “Open” division of CIF playoffs. Only the top 8 teams in the county move in to this bracket. We are the 4-seed overall, meaning that we get to host the 5-seed (Carlsbad) in an absolutely epic match up tonight. It is guaranteed that Carlsbad is going to bring a big crowd. We need to represent!!
Girls’ Soccer: If it is too short of notice for you to make the boys’ game today, worry not; the girls play at home tomorrow! We will host Mission Vista at 5 PM in the stadium. We have already knocked them off once this year, so we hope to do it again and move on in the Division III playoffs. Feel free to follow the same afternoon agenda that I outlined above.
Boys’ Basketball: If you haven’t taken notice of this program yet, it’s time to do so. The boys play at Orange Glen at 7 PM tonight. Last Friday, I watched these boys at Del Norte take the Nighthawks to double overtime. There’s something magical about watching this team play. They play with character and heart. Let’s carpool from the boys’ soccer game, and head out to Escondido for this one, eh?
Unfortunately, girls’ basketball did not quite make the playoffs. Had they had a little better luck with injuries and other issues that kept players off the court, I think we would be watching them tonight or tomorrow as well.
Here’s looking forward to next year!
