Wet ‘n’ Wild Mustangs:
No rest for the wicked! Before the Fall sports season came to a close, the Winter sports seasons began try-outs. We had a great first season of athletics at SDA, and we are on to what is arguably the most viewer-friendly of our sports seasons. Make sure to get out to support our boys’ and girls’ soccer and basketball teams. Below you will find schedules for all of Winter sports teams.
Here’s a little info to get the ball rolling:
Girls’ Soccer: Oh Baby! Last night, our Mustang ladies started off the year with the best start possible: A 2-0 victory over our Raven rivals from CCA, on the road! They brought home the Academy Cup, which the team will be decorating, and placing on display in the trophy cabinet in front of the locker rooms. Senior Miriam Bloom was selected as player of the match. The JV – A team did not fare so well against CCA, but the JV-B team defended their home turf with a victory as well. Next up is a home match against Del Lago tomorrow at 4:00 PM. Throw on a rain jacket, a goofy hat, and some silly-looking boots that you wear once-a-year in San Diego, and head out to the stadium.
Boys’ Soccer: The boys’ season does not begin until Thursday, with a home game against Rancho Buena Vista. JV starts at 4:00 and varsity starts at 6:00. Since there isn’t much more to say about a season that hasn’t started yet, I will use this space to remind Mr. Hornig, and any other Cowboys’ fans out there, that the Philadelphia Eagles performed magnificently on Thanksgiving to absolutely embarrass the Cowboys on their home field. Right, Huy?
Girls’ Basketball: The girls will take to the court for the first time tomorrow for a home game against Rancho Bernardo. Keep your eye on Alison Sakihara, our top-scoring returner from last year’s team. JV starts at 4, and varsity starts at 5:30. If you don’t have a raincoat for the soccer game, this seems like a solid alternative.
Boys’ Basketball: Much like girls’ soccer, the boys started their season against CCA. Unfortunately, they lost a squeaker, 62-60 against the Ravens in the West Hills tournament last night. Senior Bo Templin led the Mustangs in scoring with 15 points. Mark your calendars: Rematch against the Ravens on our home court, JANUARY 16th. 7:00 PM. I’ll bring the popcorn. Let’s pack the gym for that sucker! The boys will look to bounce back on Wednesday against Cathedral Catholic, which will be their second tournament game.
Release. Rotation. Splash.
