Lucien Bonnafoux was born on February 28, 1942 to Hippolyte and Georgette Bonnafoux. He grew up between San Diego County and New York City. His father was the president of Hiram Walker and his mother was an artist.

Lucien’s parents divorced at a young age and his mother moved to Chula Vista where he grew up after the untimely passing of his father during his early childhood. He worked at a Men’s Store until he joined the military.

Upon returning from Korea, Lucien attended university in San Diego. He received a BA in Psychology from Alliant International University (USIU) and an MA from the Carl Rogers Institute’s Center for the Study of the Person in La Jolla, CA. He began to work for San Dieguito Union High School District in 1974 and taught a variety of subjects for 30 years before retiring in 2004.

After his retirement from teaching, Lucien continued mentoring by opening up a therapy practice in Santa Fe, New Mexico. he continued his lifelong vocation of helping people until the day of his passing.

Lucien is survived by his two sons: Carter and Kellen; and both his ex-wife Nancy and his life-partner Michele. His life was one of stories and memories and we are all so grateful for the time we had with him. He will be remembered and missed both for the light he brought to the world and legacy he left behind.

Lucien Bonnafoux dedicated 30 years to education at San Dieguito High School, even before it was established as an Academy.
