If you would like to post an obituary of a San Dieguito alumnus, please let us know.
Emily Allen Bray went to be with the Lord on December 31, 2009. Emily was born in Fairfield, CA, in July 1964 to William and Evelyn Allen. She married John Bray in January 1993. The Bray’s with their son, Sean, made Culpeper, VA, their home in August 2000.
Emily was a gifted writer, poetess and orator and delighted all who knew her with the sharpest of wit and the kindest of words. She was a consummate student of life always questioning and searching for answers. She challenged her family, friends and co-workers to look for a deeper meaning in all aspects of their lives.
Emily described herself as Mother, Wife, Daughter, Sister and Friend. She loved her son and husband so fervently and fought one of the most courageous battles against cancer, just so she could have more time with them. She was not geographically close to her parents and siblings, but she embraced them with conversation to keep them close to her heart always. She was humbled by the support of her friends, not fully realizing what a special friend she was to them.
Emily’s fight was physically arduous, but she was not deterred from keeping the hope of winning the battle and she will always be admired for this determination and courage.
Emily is survived by her husband John, son Sean, parents Bill & Lyn Allen, brother Matthew Allen (wife Jeanie), sister Ruth Aluli (husband Kimo), nephews Derek Remley, Max Allen, Ikaika Aluli, Koa Aluli, niece Maikalani Aluli and her constant companion and guardian, Boss, her golden Labrador. Emily is predeceased by her brother Russell Allen.
A joyous celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday January 6, 2010 at the Culpeper Presbyterian Church at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer donations to the Susan J. Komen Foundation.
