Information for Prospective Athletes

San Dieguito Academy High School Boys Volleyball is a Division I sport.  The team plays in the Avocado West league which includes teams from the following schools:

  • El Camino High School
  • San Marcos High School
  • Mission Vista High School
  • Oceanside High School

SDA will also play several non-league games against teams across the county.

SDA typically fields a varsity and two junior varsity boys volleyball teams.

Eligibility
Volleyball is a spring season sport.  In order to try out for volleyball at SDA, players must first obtain an athletic clearance which includes a sports physical.  Information regarding the process can be found on the SDA Athletics website.

All student athletes must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 during the previous grading period in order to be eligible to participate on a team.  Any player who is absent from school cannot participate in any team activities that same day.

Practice
Practice attendance is vital to the development of the player and the success of the team. Players are expected to attend all practices. Players are responsible for contacting their coach prior to any missed practices. Unexcused absences could affect a player’s participation in games.

Game Transportation
All players are required to ride the team bus to and from games, including games that are played on the weekends.  The bus will pick up and drop off at SDA.  Families who need to make other transportation arrangements for their player must notify the coach and receive approval prior to the game.

Parent Volunteers
Parent volunteers are vital to the growth of the team and the overall volleyball program.  Every team has a volunteer team parent or co-parents.  The team parent assists the coach by organizing the parent volunteers, team activities/social events and by distributing information from the coach to the families, when required.

Varsity Game Duty
JV parents are responsible for overseeing the operation of the gate and snack bar in the SDA gym during CIF playoffs.  A volunteer parent leader will organize the JV players to ensure that the gate and snack bar are adequately staffed.  Proceeds from the gate and snack bar help pay for the cost of hiring game officials.
