On Thursday, May 25, several alumni gave out scholarships to graduating seniors during the 2017 Academy Awards.
Ross Urbina (’17) received the James Mitchell (’59) scholarship, presented by Tom Cozens (’66).
Nicholas Engert received the Victor Lopez (’66) scholarship. Victor’s brother, Isaac Lopez (’62) made the presentation. The Class of 1966 fully funded the Victor Lopez scholarship to honor and remember Victor.
John and Greg Meyer (’71 and ’66) created a scholarship fund that remembers and honors their parents. They presented the first Vince and Lenor Meyer Scholarship to Rosa Tlatempa (’17).
Another alumni-funded scholarship is the Alpert Family Scholarship, created by Darin Alpert (’04) and presented by his mother Judith to Cole Clisby (’17).

Isaac Lopez is the sole surviving brother of Victor Lopez ’66. He presented the scholarship to Nicholas. The scholarship was completely funded by the Class of 1966.
Tom Cozens ’66 presented the Jimmy Mitchell Scholarship to Ross Urbina ’17. This scholarship was sponsored by several alumni who donated via the SDA Foundation and Alumni Association.

The Resource Conservation District Award went to Ray Mosko ’17, presented by San Dieguito alum Nadine Scott ’69.
’91 alum and teacher Kerry Koda presented the Zake Morgan Scholarship to Megan Levan ’17. Zake was class of 2011 and is greatly missed.

Tom Cozens ’66 once received an award in the name of Jimmy Mitchell ’60; tonight he was able to give senior Ross Urbina a scholarship in the name of Jimmy Mitchell.
