The San Dieguito High School Academy Theatre proudly presents: a one-night-only benefit fundraiser for the school’s Theater Department on January 26th. The house opens at 6:30 pm in the Clayton E. Liggett Theater.
The play, The End of It, written and directed by former student Paul Coates (’76) will be performed by an all-alumni cast, including Mary Jeffries (’71), Bill Barker (’73), Mike Ball (’75), Paul Coates (’76), Sharon Corbett-Parry (’78) and Leslie Swartz-Bartlett (’83).
The Liggett family is expected to attend, including Mr. Liggett’s widow, Marty Liggett-Smith, as well as his two children, Mark (’74) and Marcia (’72).
“Each member of this cast was indelibly affected by our years at San Dieguito under the watchful and commanding presence of Mr. Liggett. I work in the entertainment industry, having managed the careers of such actors as Hugh Laurie, James McAvoy, Miriam Margolyes, Toby Stephens, John Francis Daley and others, and I would not be who I am without Clayton.
My dad died while I was a student of of Clayton’s and he took up the reins of a missing parent without my even knowing it and cast me at Willy Loman in Death Of A Salesman at the age of seventeen. I owe him so much and am thrilled to be bringing back some of his favorite students to perform this play, which is scheduled for its world premiere in Los Angeles in the summer of 2013.”
—Paul Coates
Mr. Coates has had his work produced in New York, off-Broadway, in Los Angeles and throughout the country. In this play, The End Of It, three couples simultaneously dissolve their respective twenty-year marriages. The honest, often humorous and frank situation delivers a voyeuristic punch as the couples erupt with anger, blame, grief and ultimately acceptance.
Tickets are $30.00 each and can be purchased through www.seatyourself.biz/sandieguito.
