Thanks to Gianna Heaviland (’13), the San Dieguito Union High School District implemented a policy to ensure that all deaf and hard-of-hearing students in the District will have access to interpreters, close-captioning, and other needed auxiliary aids and services.
“You have to fight for your rights. You can’t pretend that you’re just getting through it anymore because that’s not fair and we should have equal access to anything,” Gianna said.
Gianna is currently attending school in Rochester, New York, at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf.
Go, Mustangs!
