Andrea Mae Gough, age 26, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 14th, 1999 after a long illness.
Andrea was born on January 9, 1973 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated from San Dieguito High School and attended Mesa College of San Diego.
Andrea lived with her parents in Cardiff (near San Diego), California.
Andrea courageously confronted several serious challenges to her health. At age 4, she was diagnosed with childhood leukemia and was initially treated with chemotherapy. In 1983 she obtained a successful bone marrow transplant at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, with her grandmother Amber as the marrow donor. She received a lung transplant in 1997 at the UCSD Medical Center in San Diego, and had been on hemodialysis for the past year.
In spite of these difficulties, Andrea always had a cheerful personality and positive outlook on life. She had had several jobs during school, served as a volunteer tutor at the local elementary school, worked in the computer center at college, traveled widely with her family, recently visited friends and relatives in Europe, and had plans of becoming a teacher. She was talented in art, sewing, crocheting, and design; sold a number of her creations, and had given many more as gifts to friends and family.
Andrea had many friends and acquaintances. She brought out the best in people and was highly appreciative of their concerns and support. Her cheerfulness and strength encouraged those around her to cherish the positive side of life.
She was a member of the Young Adults Branch of the Del Mar Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Del Mar, California.
Andrea is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Monica Ann and Jon Croy of Seattle; her two brothers, Daniel Brian and James Leland, both of San Diego; her parents, Carol Marilyn and David Arthur Gough of San Diego; and her grandmothers, Amber Gray and Helen Gillett, both of Salt Lake City.
A viewing will be held at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, Murray, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 22, followed by a funeral at 12 noon. Burial will be at the Elysian Burial Gardens. A memorial service will be held in San Diego in January.
