Our first tile-making event ON April 26 was a huge hit! But many alumni couldn’t make it. Kelly heard their requests and arranged another tile-making evening, May 10th! (See the photos below!)
Now we are considering future tile-making events, because they are so popular. If you’d like to participate in another tile-making event, click here to email Bonnie and let her know.
Brittany Corrales and Ashley Mann (both ’06)
We are missing Boydd Dixon Galland (’60), one of the founders of our Mustang Legacy Project.
Gabbi holds Jessica Green’s (’08) tile.
Luella Elie Stilley couldn’t make it, but sent us designs for her tiles, which Gabbi Wren (’08) made for her.

Melanie Capunay (’05), Puja Bhanot (’06), and Linda Short (’05).
Thomas and Laura, both 2010.
Janell Bryant and Gabbi Wren, both ’08.
These girls had tiles made in 2010 that didn’t make it onto the wall back then… here they are, hoping teacher Jeremy Wright can figure out a way to get them on the wall now! Girls, I didn’t get your names, so let me know!
Rose Caruso (’82), Sal Caruso (’79), and Jenica Caruso (’09)
This is Melissa Sarenana. Her son, Devin Sarenana (’13) is in headed for the Army’s officer school and is currently stationed in Kansas. So she made a tile for him!
This was the beginning of the evening… midway we had spread out to the next art room. Things were getting kind of stuffy in here!

This was a fun event: alumni from all years came to the art department to create tiles for our Science/Math Building!
Published May 6, 2017
Senior Kelly Luong (’17) came up with the idea of “The Alumni River,” an artistic tile display on our new math and science building. She hand-created tiles and invited all alumni to come on campus and decorate them, especially those from 2006 to 2010, who lost their senior tiles with the 90s buildings were demolished. (See photos, below!)
Our first tile-making event was April 26 and it was a huge hit! Many alumni couldn’t make it. Kelly heard their requests and arranged another tile-making evening!
So if your tile was torn down, or you never made one, or you just want to have fun, stop by ROOM 60/61 to paint a new tile that’s going to be part of the Alumni River! (Room 60/61 is in the art building!)
What you need to know:
1) THESE ARE NOT SQUARE TILES. See the photo above of alumni holding the tiles that are shaped to fit into what will be called THE ALUMNI RIVER on our new building. Plan your designs accordingly. (And whoa, Kelly made all of these by hand!)
2) YOU DON’T NEED TO POUR OUT A TON OF GLAZE! When you arrive, you’ll have a choice of cool (blues, greens, whites) colors to use. Our guests thought they’d need a lot and poured a lot on their paper plates but a little bit goes a long way. We don’t want to run out of colors!
3) IF YOU SENT A TILE DESIGN ALREADY (because you live out of town), your intrepid alumni coordinator will be working to get them done May 10. Not sure I’ll be able to get any more done, guys, so don’t send any more BECAUSE I HAVE A LOT TO DO ALREADY! LOL.
4) THIS IS A FUN EVENT! Show up and make art, just like you used to in art class! And check out the photos below!
