Participating in parade but not walking behind band:
WHERE AND WHEN TO MEET:
At 4pm there will be a band party at 826 2nd Street held in the parking lot next to the business. All alumni marchers are invited to come and visit. I’m going to be there, Santa willing.
At 5pm there is a tree-lighting ceremony at the Lumberyard (near Starbucks) if you are interested. Downtown will be packed by this point.
By 5:30 the band will leave the party and walk to its staging area: the west side of the E Street Cafe. (See map: http://bit.ly/2gPmVyl )
The parade starts at 5:30 and proceeds south on South Coast Highway 101 from “D” to “J” Street.
NOTE: San Dieguito High School Academy band is in space number 69 of the parade. It can take a while before the band can start to march. So if you want to show up a little later than 5:30, that is up to you but don’t cut it too close!
I have signs for you to carry showing your class year and your school acronym: SDUHS or SDHS or SDA.
HOW TO GET THERE/WHERE TO PARK:
The City of Encinitas has FREE parking shuttles set up at:
Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas off of Santa Fe Dr (ADA accessible bus)
YMCA/Ecke Sports Park parking lot on Saxony Road.
Both shuttles start running at 4pm and go until 8:30pm. They run approximately every 20 minutes and will drop you off at the NCTD bus station on Vulcan Ave, north of D Street.
We’ve been advised that if you intend to park in Encinitas, you probably need to get there long before 4 pm, and that even the free parking and the shuttles can get backed up. It might be better to be dropped off.
WHAT TO WEAR:
COMFORTABLE SHOES. WARM CLOTHING. Check the weather forecast and make sure you will be dressed accordingly.
Please do not show up in a Santa suit! You may wear a Santa hat, or holiday-themed clothing, but there is only one Santa in the parade.
If you can wear San Dieguito clothing, (lettermen jacket, team shirt, mascot costume, Thespian beanie, etc.) that would be great!
MORE STUFF YOU SHOULD KNOW:
We’re not allowed to pass anything out at the parade. No throwing trinkets or passing out business cards!
Alcohol is not allowed. Don’t bring it along!
Don’t stop and mingle with spectators. This can slow down the parade and cause gaps.
I WILL NEED TWO PEOPLE TO HOLD OUR ALUMNI BANNER!
