The other day Oly Norris, ’95, came into the Foundation office carrying an envelope full of cash and a great story.
Norris is a popular AP History and Government teacher here at San Dieguito, as well as a Skate PE coach. His former classmate, Lee Dupont, ’94, is a skateboard photographer and filmmaker. According to Norris, “We were talking about how cool it was for San Dieguito to have Skate PE, something we didn’t have when we went to school here.”
Dupont had heard that Skate PE needed funds, so he set out to raise money for the class. He reached out to his contacts in the skateboard industry, asking them to submit original photos for a skateboarding fundraiser. He invited them to photograph whatever subject matter they wanted, but required that they use a camera phone to take the picture.
Submissions came in from such notables as Grant Brittain (professional photographer and San Dieguito parent), Spike Jonze (director of Where the Wild Things Are and other films), Eric Koston (professional skateboarder), Jamie Thomas (professional skateboarder), and many more.
Dupont held his fundraiser at the Daley Double in Encinitas and donated the proceeds to San Dieguito High School Academy. The envelope Norris carried contained over $1000, all of it raised by Dupont for Skate PE at San Dieguito.
We want to thank Lee Dupont for remembering his school in such a great way.
Go, Mustangs!
