We were very sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Charles McIntire. He was a wonderful teacher, well-loved by so many of his students.
Mr. McIntire was fond of telling the story of his first year teaching at San Dieguito. According to him it took some getting used to Encinitas’ small-town-feel, especially on one afternoon when several squealing piglets ran into his classroom, completely disrupting the lesson he was trying to drive home at that moment.
“The piglets were followed by a rube in overalls who was trying to chase them down,” Mr. McIntire told us at the Principal’s Tea in March 2012.
“The rube turned out to be Mr. Cunningham, head of the agriculture program at the school, but I didn’t know that then. I thought, ‘My gosh, what kind of hick situation have I gotten myself into?'”
Mr. McIntire, you got yourself into the hearts and memories of countless Mustangs, that’s what.
His memorial service will be held Saturday, May 18th at 11 am at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 890 Balour Dr., Encinitas.
If you’d like to make a memorial contribution in his name, his family asks you to consider the Episcopal Refugee Network.
