On January 25th, Ariane Price (’92) and her sketch comedy group “Strangely Attractive” presented “The Lingering Smell of High School” in the theater named after Ariane’s SDHS drama teacher Clayton E. Liggett.
The evening of comedic sketches, readings, and improv about High School was the second annual alumni benefit for the school’s Theatre Department.
“The Lingering Smell of High School” contained several insider gags that our alumni attendees appreciated. Ariane is hilarious and had nice words to say about the students who helped put on the show.
The “Strangely Attractive” team included Patty Wortham and Tom Lenk. See the photos from this event below.
Ariane Price graduated from SDHS in 1992 and has fond memories performing in the old Roundabout Theater. SDHS is where she discovered her love of improv. As an adult, Ariane is living her dream as a member of the famed Los Angeles Comedy Groundlings Theater where she writes and performs sketch comedy and performs improv — doing four shows every weekend.
Ariane is the host of a web series on Mom.me called Web Crawling. You may have seen her in appearances on Lost, Modern Family, Bridesmaids and others. You can see her on Abe’s Trophy Wife this February. She lives with her husband, who is a chef, seven year old son and two rescue dogs in the Hollywood Hills.
Patty Wortham is an alumni of the Groundlings Theater and currently performs with Impro Theater in Los Angeles. Impro Theatre creates completely improvised, full-length plays in the styles of the world’s greatest playwrights, authors and composers. Patty was in the critically acclaimed show Closing Escrow with Wendi McLendon Covey and Cedric Yarborough as well as many other productions. She is a graduate of Barnard College.
Thomas (Tom) Lenk attended the theater program at UCLA and was the recipient of the Carol Burnett Award and Scholarship. Tom has had a wide variety of acting jobs, be they in film, on television, or on stage. Most notably, Tom toured with the cast of Grease and Rock of Ages. Acting and singing are not Tom’s only talents, he is also a playwright, having written three plays to date. He had a recurring role as Andrew W More in Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He was in Argo, Cabin in the Woods, Transformers and much more.
Proceeds from the event benefited SDA’s Theatre Arts Council, which funds the technical director for the theatre department and the theatrical resources and supplies for students.
