2022-2023 Season:

Information Night is Monday, October 24th 6:00-7:00 PM at Alga Norte Aquatic Center, at the tables next to the basketball courts  (south end of pool facility). All players and at least 1 parent/guardian must attend. If you have a conflict please email girlsSDAwaterpolo@gmail.com.

The 2022-2023 try-outs for team placement will take place beginning  Wednesday November 9th – Thursday November 10th (6:45 – 9:00PM – p/u 9:10PM) at Alga Norte Aquatic Center. No practice Friday November 11 due to Veteran’s Day.  Starting Week 2, practices will be M-F 6:45 – 9:00PM. We expect to have Novice (no water polo experience necessary & no cuts, basic swimming & water treading skills required), JV and Varsity teams.

This season our teams will be in CIF Div II.  We are in the Coastal League, which has been updated to include Canyon Crest Academy, SDA, San Pasqual, Oceanside & Ramona high schools.

Athletic Clearance Due November 1st for Winter Sports:

Athletes must complete a sports physical and online clearance confirmation page to SDA Athletic Office to participate in Winter sports.

Gear

• Players purchase their Game Day team turbo brand suits at the beginning of the season through the KAP7 online store.
• Practice water polo suit
• Swim caps (one navy, one white) Goalies (red). SDA version available on KAP7 online store.
• Swim goggles
• Size 4 water polo ball, write your name on it!
• Game Day Shirt (given when joining the team), new ones can be purchased through the PrimeSports online store.  These are also worn in yearbook photo.

Swim West, located at 120 Encinitas Blvd, gives SDA team members a 20% discount on their gear, practice suits, etc.

Athletic Letterman Jackets (optional). Varsity letters are given out at the end of season banquet to the varsity rostered players. To purchase:

• Leather sleeve version: order at Town & Country – The Varsity Room, located in Solana Beach. (858) 755-6653
• Sweathshirt sleeve lighter-weight and less expensive option (sample hanging in the SDA athletic office) is from Mack Packaging in San Marcos. 760-752-3500. Forms with Megan in the Athletic Office.

PE Credit Option

Athletic Credit for PE applications will not be accepted until the start of athletic activities. Contracts should be emailed by 12/15/22 to megan.thompson@sduhsd.net.

A student can earn 5 PE credits per season with a maximum of 20 credits earned through participation on a SDA sports team. Download the Athletic PE Credit Contract here. Daniela Freeman, Varsity Team Coach

Daniela played water polo starting in middle school in Murrieta, CA. She was Captain of her high school team her senior year and received various student athlete awards throughout high school.

She played club at Xtreme Water Polo in Corona, CA. Daniela went on to play as a college athlete at the University of Toronto, winning the National Collegiate Water Polo Championship all 4 years of her undergraduate career. She was again named Captain her senior year.

During school breaks in California, Daniela would coach at Paloma Valley High School, where her younger sisters played. After college Daniela moved to San Diego and joined a masters team that took third place at Nationals in 2019.

Daniela has her Masters of Education and teaching credential for physical education. She’s currently a middle school teacher for aquatics, including the basics of both swim and water polo.  Daniela is the 18u girls coach for the Moonlight Beach Water Polo Club. This will be her second season coaching both the girls and boys water polo programs at SDA.

Collin Steward, Junior Varsity Team Coach

Collin has been in the San Diego water polo scene for over a decade as both a player and coach. Growing up, Collin played club water polo for Shores, Del Mar, and Seawolves, and played 4 years of varsity high school water polo at SDA.

Collin has coached for the Moonlight Beach Water Polo Club since 2017, and is also the current Head Coach of both the boys and girls water polo programs at SDA.

Petra Germuska, Novice Team Coach

Petra has coached at SDA since the 2021 Winter Season. She has has extensive experience playing at the club level and was also on the varsity team at La Costa Canyon High School.
