Alumni give scholarships to graduating seniors; 10 Fallen Alumni Scholarships given!

On Thursday, the Alumni Association presented ten scholarships in the names of fallen Mustangs, at the annual Senior Awards (formerly the “Academy Awards”). This is the most we’ve ever given! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO DONATED TO THIS WORTHY CAUSE!

Lee Cozens Mote (’63) presented the 2nd Lt. Richard B. Cozens, United States Air Force Award to April Diaz. Richard was Lee’s uncle.

Betty Hunt Brass (’65) presented the 2nd Lt. Walter Hunt, United States Air Force Award to Dhayra Gomez-Gutierrez. Walter was Betty’s brother.

Tom Clarke (’59), presented the 1st Lts. James M. Mitchell, United States Marine Corps Award to Trevor Harrison.

Nanette presented the 1st Lt. Charles B. Henricks United States Marine Corps Award to Roxana Albino Campos.

Terry Carlson (’64) presented the Specialist Raymond N. Curley United States Army Award to Jennifer Eng.

Cindy Korwin Thorpe (’65) presented the Pfc. David Dawson Peppin, Jr. United States Marie Corps Award to Isaac McLaurin.

Sue Sieber Cooper (’66) presented the Specialist Four, Victor Lopez, United States Army Award to Emily Valera Martinez.

Sheryl Bode presented the Zeke Morgan Award to Jenna Levin. Zake was a member of the Class of 2011 and this scholarship was created by his parents to honor his memory.

Dave and Judy Alpert, parents of Darin Alpert (’04) present Darin’s scholarship to Alexandra Joelson and Griffin Clark.

John (’71) and Greg (’66) Meyer present the Vincent and Lenor Meyer Memorial to Lenora Alpert. Vince and Lenor Meyer were John and Greg’s parents.

While the school closure prevented an “in-person” ceremony, 6 Scholarships, Honoring San Dieguito Fallen Alumni were awarded via Zoom before the end of the school year. Presenting the scholarships, as well as reading short biographies of the Fallen Alumni were Leslie Kulchin Saldana (’84)-SDA Foundation Executive Director, Sue Seibert Cooper (’65) Veteran’s Advisory Chair & Alumni Association Co-Chair and Monica Mojonnier (’84) Alumni Association Coordinator. Each recipient joined the meeting, with family by their side, or on another device, at separate locations. While it wasn’t the optimum situation, the presentation allowed for a more personal interaction with the recipients and their loved ones.

Through the generous donations of Fellow Classmates, Alumni of every generation as well as Parents and Friends of San Dieguito Academy, we were able to award these scholarships. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO DONATED TO THIS EXTREMELY WORTHY CAUSE!
