Thanks to our Phase 3 brick installers: Earl Flores & Sons!
The day before, Earl Flores (’95), his brother Andy (’00), and Earl, Sr., carefully measured the cut lines for Phase 3. This morning’s efforts would consist of the actual installation. As the Installation Team prepared the concrete, Alumni Coordinators Sue Cooper and Bonnie Wren sorted the bricks.

Boydd was always in charge of our installations. He sketched the layout as soon as we had the number of bricks we needed to complete a phase and showed up early to sort the bricks so the installers would know where to place them within the design. He had presented his sketch for Phase 3 at the December Alumni Committee meeting so we had a copy for reference.
As we laid the last brick, we couldn’t help but feel that the prankster Boydd seemed to play one last joke on us:
Andy: Just one more brick to go and we’re done! Where is the last brick? We need a 4″ x 8″.
Bonnie: (looks around wildly) Oh, no! We’re really missing a brick?
Sue: You guys better find it or we will have a hole!
Andy: Don’t panic! We can fill a hole with a blank brick, right?
Bonnie: (panicking) No! Lemme look for it! (Looks in the truck, in the grass, in the trash, around the bell tower, but no brick) Oh, this is terrible! Did we miscount our order? Or did we really lose a brick?
Sue: We’ll have to use a blank brick after all, darn it.
Andy: There’s a blank over there. I’ll get it… (stands up) Hey! Look at that! I was sitting on it all along!
Yes, Boydd would’ve just loved that little episode.

A transcription page of Phase 3 will be up soon.
We in the Alumni Committee would like to thank Earl Flores, Andy Flores, their dad and the other members of the team who worked hard Tuesday morning to install our Phase 3 bricks.
- This is Boydd Galland’s last sketch for brick layout.
- Earl and Andy check the cuts
- After the lines are cut, the heavy blocks are lifted out of the ground
- The ground is leveled, sand poured on, then bricks may be laid.
- If alumni sponsor more than one brick, we try to keep them together in the installation
- We organize the bricks on the ground to follow Boydd’s sketch
- It’s like putting a puzzle together.
- Earl, Andy and Earl Sr. work on Phase 2 repairs.
